An Ohio Teen Faces Homicide Charges after a Deadly Motorcycle Accident near Hamilton County

A 17-year-old is sitting in a Southwest Ohio juvenile detention center, facing a laundry list of serious charges following the death of an injured motorcyclist. It stemmed from a tragic accident just north of Hamilton County in early May. A 25-year-old was cruising though Southern Ohio on his Harley Davidson when he drove into the intersection of Ohio 177 and Harris Road in Hamilton, OH. The teen, driving a pickup, drove into the intersection at the same time -- but didn't yield to the biker. The teen smashed into the motorcycle, and the collision left the rider severely injured. Injuries are unfortunately common during motorcycle accidents. They can be minor with injuries like cuts and bruises (made more serious if the rider wasn't wearing protective clothing). Or they can be severe like scarring road rash, amputation, or crippling head or spine injuries. The wounded Ohio motorcyclist was rushed by air to University Hospital in Cincinnati where he sadly died from his injuries. Now the 17-year-old driver from Milford Township is being charged with vehicular homicide, as well as being charged with failure to yield at a stop sign and driving with a suspended license. It's the driving with a suspended license charge that has the teen's parents in trouble as well. According to Ohio police, the parents were aware that their son was driving with a suspended license at the time of the motorcycle wreck, since they were required by law to be at the hearing where his license was revoked. They'll be charged with the 'wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle' -- a misdemeanor in Ohio. As a state, Ohio has seen a decrease in motorcycle fatalities. However, there's been a slight increase in Hamilton County motorcycle accidents in the past few years. In 2011 alone, there were 183 motorcycle wrecks resulting in 7 deaths.
