Charges to be filed in Ohio traffic death

Life in Ohio would be very difficult without cars, as anyone new to the state's flat expanses and comprehensive grid of roads can see. The state's position at the crossroads of the northern United States gives it a disproportionate number of highway miles for Buckeyes and outsiders alike to travel.

Driving while well-rested, avoiding distractions and never driving under the influence are all key rules for safe travels as a car, truck, bus or motorcycle driver. It is vital to properly yield and signal when changing lanes and executing other maneuvers that, if done quickly or carelessly, could cause serious injury or even death.

A Cleveland area woman is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and failure to yield in connection with a tragic accident that claimed the life of a Youngstown firefighter. The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Ashtabula County say that the future defendant did not stop her van properly on State Route 45 and crashed into a motorcycle ridden by a local battalion chief.

The 64-year-old victim passed away after being transported to a local medical center and a trauma center in Cleveland. The van driver and her two passengers were not injured in the crash, and the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Victims of injury in car accidents – and the survivors of fatalities – may seek restitution through settlements or court actions for reimbursement for medical expenses and compensation for emotional distress. A personal injury attorney may help victims sort out their options and arrive at the right solution.
